Is It Effective? The Hoodia Diet Pill
The effectiveness of the Hoodia diet pill has been under debate since it has yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Because of this, there are claims that the Hoodia diet pill is not as effective as the makers claim it is, in addition to the fact that the producers are not under the same guidelines for purity of their product as those diet pills that are manufactured in the USA under the FDA regulations. Some compare it to the ephedra diet pill, claiming Hoodia will end up with some surprise detrimental effects once it has been studied more thoroughly.
Background
The effectiveness of the Hoodia plant led to the creation of the diet pill. A doctor who was studying the Bushmen of Africa noticed that when they were on long hunting trips they would chew on the stem of the Hoodia plant. Upon further study, he found that the plant helped to suppress the appetite for the hunters so that they could go for longer times without eating in the sparsely vegetated area they went through when hunting. This led the doctor to study the Hoodia plant where he found that the plant had an appetite suppressing molecule in it which worked to trick the brain into thinking that it was full even when no food had been consumed. He then thought this would be effective as a Hoodia diet pill to help people who were obese to lose weight.
Since that time there have been mixed reviews as to the effectiveness of the Hoodia diet pill. As with any diet pill, if individuals do not implement a diet and exercise plan in addition to the weight loss pill the results will not be very promising. In order to lose weight and keep it off, individuals must change the habits they have formed in regard to what they eat and how much they exercise. If this is not changed, they may lose weight by suppressing their appetite, which the Hoodia diet pill is effective at doing, and not eat the amount of food that they were formerly eating. If this is not mixed with a proper diet and exercise, the person’s system will actually slow down, so they do not metabolize food as quickly, with the body thinking that it is going into starvation mode, conserving as much energy as possible. When this happens, after losing the weight the individual will start eating in their old habits again and will often gain more weight than they had on before due to a lower metabolism, thus leading to frustration and disappointment.
